St. Paul's Past and Present

In April 1888, Judge Joseph R. Boone received a letter from Bishop Eugene R. Hendrix informing him that the Board of Church Extension of The M. E. Church South. had donated $1,000 and granted a loan for an additional $500 for the purpose of building a church in Saturday, August 28, 2010 18:08 -->. Paul's, to build the church. This first church was called the Hendrix Church. It was torn down in 1912 and another larger church was built in its place. This new church was named St. Paul's M. E. Church, South. This church building served the congregation until 1966, when a new sanctuary was built west of the old St. Paul's and the old St. Paul's sanctuary was razed and the bricks were given to Brazito to be used in a church. Since then the music addition was added and then the major upgrade of adding a chapel, commons area, more class rooms and an elevator that permitted access to all of the building, was completed in 2001.South Entrance to St. Paul's

Our Philosophy

Here at St. Paul's we believe in John Wesley's teaching that knowledge and vital piety go hand in hand. Christian study is essential to Christian maturity. At St. Paul's we offer numerous opportunities for faith development through Christian study. We have a Sunday school program that meets weekly at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 10:30 a.m. with classes for all ages from nursery to senior citizens.  In addition to Sunday morning classes, other studies are offered at different times of the year. During the Lenten and Advent seasons, several different classes are usually held. Other special classes may be be held for a short time period of 4 to 6 weeks at other times during the year when a need arises or the ministers or the membership request them. Everyone can find a place to learn at St. Paul's.
